Monday, June 29, 2009 11:50 AM Desiree Stokes has spoken with base camp and is currently talking to United group sales. The boys are all safe and no doubt having an experience of their lives gathering information on which to embellish for years to come.
Due to the inclement weather of the last 3 days, NTier has approximately 65 men/5 Scout Troops to transport from Scout Lake to base camp. They have added an extra float plane to their fleet of two making a total of three aircraft. Even with that it will take two trips to evacuate all 5 troops. The plan is to have everyone back to base by 2 pm at which time they can clean up and call home to reassure us all they are alive, well, ready for a home cooked meal and real sheets in a real bed. It is a 4 hour driving trip to Winnipeg airport after they are loaded in the 2 rental vans (which will have to be returned). According to my airline husband, the flight schedules back to Atlanta most likely will be on a “priority standby” status without much of a rebooking fee, if any. Realistically, looking at the United flight schedule, it may be tomorrow before they all arrive in Atlanta, but we can always hope for something different. Flights to Chicago in order to make Atlanta connections are rare after 5:40 pm. Important for us all to remember is the experience and confidence gained by any situation like this. Our boys will be experts on perseverance and patience (hopefully). I can’t wait to hear about the perils, bears, mosquitoes, MRE’s and every single experience of the last eleven days growing to Tall Tale equivalence over the journey home. We will keep everyone posted on developments as they arise. Enjoy your day! Don’t hesitate to call my cell anytime 770-330-9708. Carol D. |
